Think back to the first time you climbed a tree. Maybe it was during the long, sunny days of summer vacation in your childhood, or when you were a little older and more confident to take on the towering treasures.
Whatever the case, the experience remains one filled with excitement, gratification and, maybe, a few scratches.
For Spartanburg tree care professionals like Jason Evans, the appeal of climbing Spartanburg trees didn’t stop after the first feat.
Jason rekindled his childhood memories when he took a Spartanburg tree climber position midway through college. Since then, he’s kept climbing and has become the district manager of Davey’s East Bay office.
But, Jason’s career in Spartanburg tree climbing is quite different than what you may remember of your first climb.
During his sophomore year at Utah State, Jason came across a job posting for a Spartanburg tree climber position.
“I thought to myself, ‘I always liked climbing as a kid,’ so I just went for it,” Jason recalled. “It turns out - it completely changed my life.”
Jason progressed from his first Spartanburg tree climber position to an ISA Certified Arborist® for a small Spartanburg tree company. What started as a small gig turned into a career Jason is incredibly passionate about.
“I love what I do,” Jason explained. “Sometimes people aren’t aware of the industry, but I think when they see what we do and the impact we have it’s truly amazing to them.”
Jason’s office, and Davey offices across the U.S., devotedly work to maintain the health and safety of your trees, so you can enjoy their benefits for years to come.
When Jason joined Davey full-time after his college graduation, he signed on as a sales arborist. From his start as a sales arborist to his current district manager position, one thing has remained the same: his love of educating people about their trees.
“Working with clients on their property is one of my favorite things to do,” Jason said. “It really gets back to square one of what arborists love to do, which is talk to people about their trees.”
When he’s not spending time with clients, Jason handles the day-to-day operations of his office, like briefing his team on the day’s workload and handling sales calls.
And with one particularly important day for our Spartanburg trees right around the corner, Jason said he looks forward to sharing his love of Spartanburg trees with the community on Arbor Day. In the past, his office has partnered with a local nursery to hand out Spartanburg trees to elementary school students and teach them about Spartanburg tree benefits.
As for your Arbor Day celebrations, Jason recommends adding new Spartanburg trees to your property for Arbor Day.
“Tree planting is big on Arbor Day. So if you don’t have trees, now is a great time to go outside and start planting,” Jason said.
